The history
On the hills where vines have spoken for centuries…
a family heritage transformed into vision
ViniDiCagnore is an agricultural and wine-making enterprise born in San Severino Marche, in the heart of an ancient and fertile land that has always been dedicated to vine cultivation. The name itself refers to Contrada Cagnore, mentioned in the descriptive land registers of the 16th century as a “high-quality” agricultural territory, with hills already cultivated with vines thanks to their wind-protected position and favorable altitude.
Over the centuries, these lands have maintained their vocation intact: the unique microclimate, rich soils, and perfect exposure continue to offer ideal conditions for viticulture today.
Building on this heritage, the farm came to life not just as a business, but as a cultural and family project, aimed at preserving, sharing, and enhancing the richness of the territory.
The DOC “I Terreni di SANSEVERINO”
The “I Terreni di Sanseverino” DOC, recognized in 2004, originates from a rich history linked to medieval figures, trade with Rome and Umbria, and a wine culture maintained through generations. Credit for this DOC also goes to Cesare Ottavi, a visionary landowner who revitalized customary vine cultivation, expanding production and promoting the historical and cultural value of San Severino wines. His determination and the commitment of local institutions culminated in the official recognition of the DOC, putting this area on the Italian wine map. I Terreni di Sanseverino thus continue to offer wines that celebrate their history, quality and uniqueness, testifying to their heritage and the quality of the terroir.
THE BIRTH OF OUR PROJECT
In 2022 , the embryo of the revival wine project is created. Luca, Michaela, Stacy and Wess decide to give life, with a trained and professional team, to a new viticultural path of great value, which faithfully represents and reflects the tradition of the territory. With the recovery of old vineyards about 40 years old and the underground Cellar, the ViniDiCagnore project was born : a precise and passionate idea, combining memory and research, respect for tradition and desire for innovation. The goal is not only to produce wine, but to do it in an authentic, conscious, scientific way.
1500, THE ORIGINS
An ancient scroll from 1500 already mentioned, in the descriptive land register, the Cagnore district of San Severino Marche, defining it as an agricultural territory of “high quality”. Thanks to its altimetric and topographic conditions, sheltered from winds, most of its hills were already cultivated with vines at that time. The same scroll records the division of lands in the Cagnore district between two brothers, Ottavio and Anselmo, sons of Giovanni di Lorenzo. From Ottavio descended the Ottavi family, who from the mid-1980s began to grow and enhance the area’s viticulture.
1985, The renaissance
In 1985, Cesare Maria Ottavi, a university professor in Rome and passionate viticulturist, inherited the Ottavi family’s lands and house. From the very beginning, he understood that this heritage had a value
beyond sentiment: it was a place to rediscover, revive, and transform into excellence.
